Environmental Preservation Activities

  1. Promotion of energy saving
We are implementing the adoption of efficient lighting, replacement of old air conditioners, and other facility investment to conserve energy. In addition, we are trying to maintain the lighting and air conditioning adequate in our factories and offices.
  2. Promotion of resource conservation and recycling
We are committed to the reduction, reuse, and recycling (3Rs) of waste generated through our business operation. We are also working on the reduction of water used for cooling products in our factories. We promote the improvement of production efficiency and product quality, while also reducing the consumption of natural resources and waste generation so as to minimize environmental impact.
  3. Provision of Environmentally Conscious Products
By managing chemical substances contained in products and implementing product assessment, we provide environmentally conscious products.

Individual Cases of Environmental Preservation Activities

At Saitama Works

Solar Energy Generation Systems

Saitama Works is an early adopter of a solar energy generation system as the main power source for the gate guards' office; the system enables us to save energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Wind and Solar Hybrid Lights and Tree Planting

Saitama Works has installed wind and solar hybrid lighting systems in its employees’ relaxing space called Shinsei-Hiroba or New Life Place, in order to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There are also trees of the prefectures where our subsidiaries are located both for greening activities and for CO₂ absorption on the premises. Around the trees, a special type of material called “Eco Clean Soil” is used. It is mainly composed of natural soil and includes no hazardous materials. The lumpy soil absorbs and holds water well and repels weeds.

For Conservation of Biodiversity

At Shonan Works:

Shonan Works is located in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, where the temperature reaches 35℃ in summer.
On the fourth floor, or the top floor of the building, the air conditioners are set 3℃ lower than on the lower floors due to the solar heat coming from the roof top. As one of the countermeasures, we have a green roof on one of our buildings.

Plants and trees growing on the rooftop of the buildings and houses are effective to protect these buildings from solar heat and increase the efficiency of air conditioners.
The green roofs lower the temperature of the surrounding air by plant transpiration, and plants absorb carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and purify the air.

At Suwa Works:

Suwa Works is located in Fujimi-machi, Suwa-gun, Nagano, where the temperature drops to -10℃ in winter. We formerly consumed fossil fuels for oil heaters, but now we use Shinshu-type pellet stoves, instead of oil heaters, in order to reduce energy consumption and protect environment and natural resources. Shinshu-type pellet stoves are developed by a local manufacturer as an official project organized by Nagano Prefecture, which aims to reduce fossil fuel use and curb unnecessary local logging, making use of local technologies and thinned trees effectively.

Unnecessary logging is an obstacle against reducing carbon dioxide emissions and is a contributing factor to the environmental degradation of the surrounding areas.
Suwa Works is aiming at becoming a community-based and environmentally-conscious organization.

Features of Shinshu-type Pellet Stoves

  • The Shinshu-type pellet stove uses bullet-shaped fuels made from forest thinning materials. Fossil fuels are not used.
  • The forest thinning materials are generated in Nagano. Efficient use of local resources.
  • The pellet stove does not smoke as wood stoves do. Pellet fuels do not contain water and, therefore, burns at high temperature, producing almost no smoke and carbon dioxide.
  • The fuels leave only a small amount of ash, which can also be recycled as good soil improvement agents.
